With over 3 decades of being a pop star, Christina Aguilera has grown up before our eyes. Today, the famous singer is in her forties, and she’s opening up about how she feels about aging and, more importantly, what she does to make that transition feel as comfortable as possible.

In a recent interview, the famous singer proudly admitted to getting cosmetic injections, saying, “I think we all can rely on a little help. Why not?” However, Aguilera pointed out that she’s cautious about how far she takes the tweaking her face: “We like expression, especially in my line of work. I don’t want to have a frozen face. Whether it’s being on camera or performing onstage, I have to stay authentic to my emotion.”

Aguilera then proceeded to share her opinion on growing older, admitting that as she’s entered different stages of her life, she’s gotten more comfortable with her age. “Viewing aging as a negative is a super old-school approach... I’m really into feeling more self-assured as you get older. That’s the thing to truly embrace. It’s harmful when [aging] becomes an obsession.”

The “Genie in a Bottle” singer also reminded everyone that whatever works for her might not work for someone else and that there’s no universal answer to aging correctly. “I also think that everybody has a different outlook on how they want to age. It’s a very personal conversation — what works for some people might not work for others,” she said.

Being in the spotlight most of her life, Aguilera has had to deal with critics constantly, but it taught her that you couldn’t please everyone, saying, “Things are going to change as you grow older — especially as women... Being in the public eye is an added element that can complicate your view of yourself. People are going to have an opinion no matter what you do, no matter what you wear. The artistry always comes first to me.”
